Solar Camera Pest Traps & Wireless Soil Sensors Across 500 Acres

Across hundreds of acres, pests and dry soil can ruin a harvest weeks before scouts notice. Here is how our Forward-Deployed Engineers built and calibrated solar-powered camera traps and long-range soil sensors that alert agronomists every morning on WhatsApp.

01 / The Field Challenge

Why Manual Crop Scouting & Timed Irrigation Cost Too Much

On large commercial farms and greenhouses, field scouts can only inspect a small fraction of sticky traps each week. By the time an outbreak of moths, thrips, or fruit flies is recorded on paper, the pest population has already spread across adjacent blocks—forcing blanket chemical spraying.

At the same time, running borehole and drip irrigation pumps on fixed timers wastes both diesel/solar power and water when root-zone moisture is already sufficient.

How We Built & Tuned the Sensor Network On-Site

Instead of shipping off-the-shelf gadgets that fail in heavy rain or rural dead-zones, we sent a **Forward-Deployed Engineer (FDE)** from our Gigiri AI & IoT Center directly to the farm to map radio signal coverage and crop microclimates.

Solar AI Camera Pest Traps

Weatherproof solar-charged traps photograph the pheromone sticky board twice a day. Onboard AI counts specific pest species and flags sudden spikes by block.

Root-Zone Soil Probes

Multi-depth capacitive moisture and temperature probes transmit over long-range LoRaWAN (up to 10 km without Wi-Fi) back to a solar gateway.

Automated Borehole & Drip Relays

When soil moisture drops below the agronomist's threshold and solar inverter output is high, the controller automatically opens the block solenoid valves.

Morning WhatsApp Digest

At 6:30 AM every morning, the farm manager and agronomist receive a heat-map summary on WhatsApp showing exact blocks requiring attention.

Targeted Spraying & Lower Pumping Costs

  • Targeted Pest Control: Replaced blanket weekly spraying with targeted block treatments triggered only when trap counts cross threshold.
  • 100% Solar-Autonomous Field Nodes: Zero battery swaps required across the entire growing season thanks to integrated MPPT solar charging.
  • Water & Borehole Protection: Prevented over-watering and dry-run pump damage with live tank level and flow-rate interlocks.
